2021 Durango Hellcat: Everything You Need to Know

Right now this amazing vehicles is being mentioned by alot of different names like : 2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat, 2021 Durango Hellcat, 2021 Durango, 2021 Dodge Durango SRT, Dodge Durango Hellcat. Here , we are going to tell you everything you need to know about the 2021 DURANGO SRT® HELLCAT!

After teasing a new Durango lineup for some time, Dodge has finally come out with six new trims. In general, the new lineup represents logical upgrades to the brand rather than anything revolutionary. The exception to the rule is the high-performance SRT Hellcat trim, an astonishingly powerful vehicle that can tow almost 9,000 pounds and hit 180 mph. In all, Dodge is boasting that they’re launching the most powerful SUV in the world.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat: The World’s Most Powerful SUV

A brief overview of the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat paints a picture of an avalanche on wheels. Seating arrangements are quite generous, with three rows of seats and plenty of space. Dodge is taking the Hellcat where no SUV has gone before with an incredibly powerful V-8 engine. This terrifically strong engine is the root of the many, impressive claims that Dodge is making when it comes to the capability of this new SUV. With 710 horsepower and an all-wheel-drive at your fingertips, the Durango Hellcat is capable of going 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.

It’s certainly well-named, and you have to imagine that it roars like a lion from the underworld once you really get going on the highway. But that’s not all, given that the 2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat carries a host of infotainment features and places a premium on comfort. This is one SUV that seems equally suitable for offroad adventures, taking the family out for groceries, or going to war. The exterior design is quite a bit bulkier and more imposing compared to past Durango models, with the crosshair grille replaced by a bold notched opening design.

While this powerhouse SUV might seem redundantly potent and ridiculous to many, it’s sure to find a market among those who appreciate it. Dodge leadership seems to be aware of this, and they’re releasing the 2021 Dodge Durango as a limited run that will end with the 2021 model year. Past SRT models have held their value remarkably well on the secondhand market, which is sure to sweeten the deal for anyone interested in the 2021 Durango Hellcat. However, a good sales performance could possibly see Dodge slate this monstrous SUV for a second run.

    Engine

There’s no doubt that the star of this show is the supercharged engine under the Hellcat’s hood. It has a heavily ventilated hood and advanced ventilation system to keep the engine cool, and it’s quite necessary. The engine itself is a 710 horsepower, 6.2 liter V-8, the most powerful engine in any SUV model to date. Dodge goes to great pains to ensure the strength and reliability of their SRT Hellcat models, and a few features on this model include oil jet and water jacket cooling systems. But it doesn’t stop there, as the engine also relies on forged steel for the construction of key components.

Transmission, Suspension, and Other Key Components

Some standard features in the Durango Hellcat include all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. You can choose between Pirelli Scorpion Zero all-season tires or P-Zero summer tires from the same brand. The 2021 Durango reuses the suspension from the 2020 Durango SRT but in a specially tuned, improved form. As a result, it promises a dramatic boost in rebound control and leaves you enjoying a smoother driving experience. Handling, comfort, and general performance should be top-notch. But the ability to stop is just as important as the ability to go, and the impressive Brembo brakes compensate for the power of this SUV. It relies on a combined system of calipers and binders to apply pressure to the front rotors and rear discs, which should provide for smooth, fast braking.

    Performance

We’ve listed a few of the impressive claims that Dodge has made about this mid-size powerhouse, but there’s much more to the performance of the Hellcat. Any SUV capable of making 0 to 60 in 3.5 is sure to turn heads, but the sustained speeds this vehicle is capable of are incredible. It only requires 11.5 seconds to go from a full-stop to covering a quarter-mile, and we’re not just relying on Dodge to corroborate that. This particular feat is even NHRA-certified.

    Interior Design and Functionality

When you peek inside the Hellcat, you see that Dodge placed heavy emphasis upon fashion. Red seems to be the color of choice, with a red-backlit SRT logo on the steering wheel and a red-accented gauge cluster. You can also upgrade the cabin with luxurious Laguna leather in a black-and-red color scheme with the Hellcat logo. By default, this model comes with Nappa leather. The front seats are oriented towards the driver, with a wide dashboard, comfortably large storage bin, and impressive, easily accessible infotainment services. Heated, ventilated seats and wireless charging are necessities for any luxurious SUV like this, and it’s only natural that they’re included.

    Infotainment and Passenger Comfort Features

Dodge equipped the new Durango line with a large, 10.1-inch combination touchscreen and rotary dial display that clearly displays all relevant information. You can also use the new addition of Amazon Alexa functionality to control the display via an expanded voice command feature. Speaking of software, the software side of the company has worked to upgrade the speed that the tech is capable of in this iteration.

By some reports, it’s fully five times faster than the previous Dodge infotainment system. Bluetooth can function with two devices simultaneously, and you can enjoy music via Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. At customer request, the manufacturer will install two 9-inch screens on the back of the front seats for the viewing pleasure of the passengers.

    Mileage and Fuel Economy

SUV’s have a tendency to be real gas guzzlers, and there’s nothing indicating that the Durango SRT Hellcat is going to break this trend. At the moment, there are no official figures from Dodge or regulatory government agencies. Nonetheless, we can draw comparisons with other high-performance SUVs to start making estimates. It’s rare that an SUV will do better than 20 mpg on the highway, and this typically drops to 15 mpg or less on city streets.

However, the Hellcat isn’t just a high-performance SUV. Rather, it’s the high-performance SUV, and Dodge has deliberately built it to be ludicrously powerful. Odds are that it will perform more poorly than other SUVs on this metric, and our prediction hovers around 17 mpg on the highway and 12 mpg on city streets. As soon as showrooms start receiving their models, we’ll likely have real-world mileage tests as well as official figures to draw on.

    Key Safety Features

Likewise, safety and crash-test ratings for the 2021 Durango Hellcat are currently mysteries. No regulatory agencies or private institutes have had the chance to assess it, yet. Dodge hasn’t spoken too much about driver and passenger safety features either, and when they did it mostly referred to specific trims. While safety features remain ambiguous, at least some trims will have key features such as lane departure prevention, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision prevention. We imagine that these features will either be present on the 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat or that you can request them as add-on features.

      Pricing Estimates

At the moment, Dodge hasn’t released specific pricing information on all of the 2021 Durango trims. In the past, Dodge has priced its high-performance models roughly $20,000 greater than basic trims. Our estimate on the starting price for the Durango SRT Hellcat places it around $80,000. The majority of industry analysts predict a similar price, give or take $3,000. Mopar Insiders has alleged a starting price of $80,995. With showroom orders starting in November 2020  and factory production beginning in January 2021, confirmation from Dodge must be around the corner.

      Long-Term Value

Odds are that the Durango Hellcat is going to be another rare Dodge offering that will quickly be snatched up by collectors and enthusiasts. This happened with previous limited-run Dodge models, such as the 2018 Dodge SRT Demon. In the case of the Demon, it now has a trading value well in excess of the original MSRP. If it’s hard to justify such an extravagant SUV purchase, then you may rest more easily with the possibility that the Hellcat is also somewhat likely to retain its value. In light of that, you might even buy the Durango Hellcat with an eye towards treating it as an investment.
