5 Cool Winter Activities Coming to Kirkland Parks

Mountaineer’s International Folk Dancing

At these classes in the Peter Kirk Community Center, visitors can learn to line dance, dance with a partner, or discover a mix of many international styles. Waltz, two-step, tango, schottische, hambo, and polka will all be covered. The first hour is dedicated to beginners, while the second hour allows experienced visitors to request walk-throughs of specific dances. No experience is needed, and all adults are welcome. Classes are held from 7:30–9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, until April 11, 2017.

Baby Boogie Woogie

This event at North Kirkland Community Center is for parents of kids from 12–36 months old. This charming musical class features instruments which allow little ones to march to their own beat, and sing along to old favorites. These classes are taught by Karen Renfroe-Gielgens, who has over 20 years of experience in teaching programs for preschoolers. Classes are held on Mondays, from 9:15–10:00 a.m., until March 20, 2017.

Messy Art for Twos With Parent

One parent and one two-year-old can have a great hands-on art experience to develop creativity and self-expression. You’ll have fun smearing paint, kneading dough, and doing plenty more. Just make sure both you and your child are dressed to make a mess! Messy Art for Twos With Parent takes place at North Kirkland Community Center on Mondays, from 10:30–11:15 a.m., plus Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9:30–10:15 a.m., until March 23, 2017.

LEGO Jedi Adventure Game Winter Break Camp

Do your children want something fun to do over the winter break? Do they love LEGO blocks or Star Wars? At the North Kirkland Community Center’s winter break camp, kids can use LEGO blocks from Star Wars-themed sets to craft specific items their way. Kids learn to roll dice to gain specific blocks, which teaches them to get creative with limited resources. Inspired by the creativity of block-building video games such as Minecraft, Play-Well sponsors such events throughout the year. Camp activities are held on December 19–22, from 1:00–4:00 p.m.

Ballet Basics

Have you wanted to try ballet but just never had the opportunity? This basic adult class at the Peter Kirk Community Center proves that it’s never too late to learn. Young adults to seniors are welcome to learn the fundamental techniques of the most beautiful and graceful dance style, in a supportive environment. All members will come away with more developed coordination, strength, stamina, balance, body awareness, and self-confidence. No dance training or experience is necessary. Ballet Basics takes place on Mondays, from 6:15–7:15 p.m., until March 27, 2017.
