Vinyl is a versatile material that can mimic the look and feel of leather and suede. With a midrange price, vinyl is more durable than cloth. As a result, it’s a popular substitute for the two aforementioned more expensive materials. However, there are some disadvantages to vinyl. For example, when the outside temperature rises, vinyl seats retain the heat, making passengers feel uncomfortable when their bare skin touches the seat surface. After riding in the car for several hours, passengers may have the unpleasant experience of their sweaty skin sticking to the vinyl.

The Luxury of Leather

Nothing says “luxury” like leather seats. Though they’re expensive, leather seats have several benefits. For one thing, there’s no real substitute for the supple feel of real leather. For drivers who expect copious wear and tear on their seats, leather upholstery is one of the most durable options. Unlike vinyl, leather doesn’t become exceptionally hot to the touch.

The primary downside to leather is its price. It’s one of the most expensive options on the market. Another possible disadvantage is leather’s ongoing need for care. It’s important to clean the seats and then apply a conditioner to keep the leather beautiful and supple.

Whether it’s price, appearance, or other factors that drive your decision, you can find an upholstery option to meet your standards. After you choose your upholstery, do your best to keep it clean. It’s also smart to reduce its exposure to UV light, which tends to break down the upholstery and cause its color to fade.
