Safety technologies are incredibly important in the automotive industry, and while they’ve advanced a ton over the past decade, there’s still plenty of room for growth. Driver-assistive safety technologies are some of the most crucial advancements that have been developed, but thanks to connected technologies like those in the Uconnect infotainment system, even more new safety advancements are being made. For example, during the 2018 model year, Stellantis brands began rolling out a feature called Emergency Vehicle Alert System, or EVAS. Today we want to highlight this technology to show you exactly what it can do and touch on some other new technologies Stellantis is working on.

What is EVAS?

By now, more than 1.8 million Chrysler, Dodge, RAM and Jeep vehicles are equipped with EVAS in their Uconnect system. It’s a standard feature in all of today’s vehicles from those brands, but it’s one you might not even realize you have. What it does is send an alert through the infotainment system whenever there is an active fire truck, ambulance or similar roadway hazard in the vicinity of your path.

The technology harnesses the power of Safety Cloud, which is the largest vehicle-to-everything (V2X) platform in the country when it comes to sending digital alerts. The platform was built by HAAS Alert and is capable of sending all kinds of alerts thanks to notifications it receives not just from emergency vehicles but also tow trucks, disabled vehicles, work zones and arrow boards, highway gates and more.

What is HELP?

The automaker is working with Emergency Safety Solutions Inc. to build a new system that will deliver warnings to vehicles that might be approaching a disabled vehicle. It’s the logical next step in the progression of harnessing V2X technologies.

What else is in store?

These two systems only represent the foundation of everything that’s possible with V2X and Uconnect. While HELP is what Stellantis is working on next, after that they could tackle digital alert technology for any of the other kinds of notifications Safety Cloud receives, or perhaps even more that aren’t yet part of the scope.

Until then, what we have to look forward to next are STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit and STLA AutoDrive, which are a trio of tech platforms that will first see the light of day in four BEVs that Stellantis will be unveiling next year in 2024. Until then, if you have any questions about EVAS, which is already a part of your vehicle if you own a 2018 or newer Stellantis vehicle, feel free to give us a call.
