Does the United States Have Enough Charging Stations for Electric Cars?

As excited as we are about the electric and hybrid vehicles coming from brands like Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep, we realize that there may be some reservations people have when it comes to following through on electric car ownership. One of the biggest concerns people have is how they will be able to charge their vehicle both on a regular basis and on road trips.

This ultimately leads to a bigger question of whether or not the U.S. has enough charging stations for electric car drivers. It’s a tough question to answer, and the answer will certainly vary by location. Considering the country as a whole, however, there’s no doubt that there is some work to do in terms of charging station accessibility if we want to ensure everyone has equal access to electric mobility.

Stellantis Brands Join Other Automakers to Increase Charging Station Access

Thankfully, our favorite vehicle brands are doing something about that. Stellantis, which is the auto group that includes the new car brands we sell here at Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Kirkland, has joined up with other automakers to develop a high-powered charging network stretching across North America.

The other brands involved in this joint venture include BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Mercedes-Benz Group. After all, it would take more than just Stellantis to change the landscape of America’s charging capability, as the goal is to put in place at least 30,000 high-powered charging stations in both urban and highway locations. These stations would be equipped to handle both the Combined Charging System and the American Charging Standard connectors. The hope is that the first stations will open up in the summer of 2024, with many more to follow.

Now, we also realize that another concern people have about electric vehicles isn’t just the accessibility of charging stations, but also the length of time it may take to charge up at a public station. After all, it takes just a few minutes to fill a car with gas at a fuel pump. Well, despite the fact that charging times have been considerably reduced over the last several years, it seems the leaders of this project have considered this as well. These charging stations have been planned for appealing locations and will include additional amenities so that users have more options available to pass a bit of time than simply waiting for their vehicle to charge up.
